Parent & School Compact

Parent Responsibilities
As a parent, I will: 
  1. Invite my child to read every day. 
  2. Read from a variety of children’s books with my child. 
  3. Look over assignments to check for understanding. 
  4. Be available to help as needed. 
  5. Talk with my child’s teacher about his/her reading progress and progress in other academic areas.  
  6. Encourage positive attitudes towards school. 
  7. See that my child attends school regularly and is on time. 
  8. Attend parent-teacher conferences. 
  9. Talk to my child about his/her day.

Teacher Responsibilities
As a teacher, I will: 
  1. Maintain and foster high standards of academic achievement and positive behavior. 
  2. Provide quality teaching and leadership. 
  3. Provide specific feedback for improvement. 
  4. Focus on reading and writing.  
  5. Work toward parental involvement as supporting their children’s reading and homework.  
  6. Maintain open lines of communication with students and parents. 
  7. Provide instruction utilizing research based strategies that will meet all students’ instructional needs.  
  8. Share assessments and information used to monitor children’s progress 
  9. Facilitate parent-teacher conferences in elementary schools, at least annually, during which the compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. 
  10. Encourage each child to do his/her personal best  
Student Responsibilities
As a student, I will: 
  1. Follow directions and show integrity.
  2. Make safe choices.
  3. Ask the teacher questions when I don’t understand. 
  4. Read aloud to my parents or pets. 
  5. Be responsible and complete and turn in tasks assigned to me. 
  6. Attend school daily 
  7. Always try my best in my work and behavior. 
  8. Show tolerance and have an open mind.
  9. Play, learn and communicate in a caring way
Principal Responsibilities
As a leader, I will: 
  1. State clearly the goals for reading achievement. 
  2. Share the high expectations for reading with all participants. 
  3. Articulate instructional means for attaining goals. 
  4. Share assessments used to monitor children’s progress. 
  5. Provide the students with highly professional, qualified staff. 
  6. Provide an environment that has positive communication between the students, parents and staff. 
  7. Work toward Parental involvement in supporting children’s reading and homework.
  8. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment.
