ELL Testing: ELPA21
Between February 14 and March 9, 2017, DMPS English Language Learners will be taking the English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA21). Make ups (if necessary) will occur after Spring Break. The ELAP21 replaces the previously given Iowa English Language Development Assessment (IELDA). The ELPA21 is the annual language assessment that is administered to ELL students in the State of Iowa. ELL students and students who qualify for ELL services, but waived those services will be tested on the ELPA21. The ELPA21 is an online assessment that is designed to measure the performance of English language learners as they progress through their K–12 education and achieve college and career readiness. The ELPA21 items are designed to gather evidence that students are progressing toward or meeting the new set of English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards. |

WAIT. WHAT?
Dear Data Diva, I'm tired of attempting to read tea leaves. Will we administer Smarter Balanced as our state accountability test in the 2017-18 school year? --School Leader in Limbo
Dear School Leader in Limbo,
Heck if I know.
Earlier this month, Governor Branstad asked the Iowa Department of Education to put a hold on the implementation of Smarter Balanced assessments so the Legislature could further discuss the state accountability test. We are waiting to see what this discussion will bear. If the Legislature does not act, the Iowa Department of Education is positioned to adopt Smarter Balanced for the 2017-18 school year.
As Always,
Data Diva
