The Iowa Department of Education is on track to release the Spring 2019 ISASP data in late October. On September 12, the State Board of Education approved performance levels for the assessment (not proficient, proficient, advanced). We will be getting information out of schools as soon as we receive the results from the Iowa Department of Education. These results will not be directly comparable to the Iowa Assessments (former state assessment) and reflect a higher level of expectations for Iowa's students. Potential reports will be previewed at the October principal meetings. Panorama Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Survey
We will be administering the Panorama Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) survey beginning on Monday, October 7th until Friday, October 18th. This survey is designed for students to reflect on their school environment and experiences to help educators learn more about how to better support students' needs. For more information and resources please check out our Panorama: Social-Emotional Learning Survey page. |
Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Survey
DMPS will be conducting the Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Poll from October 15 through October 30. All staff will receive a pre-survey email from DMPS on October 3th. Staff can access the survey via the link in the email from Gallup o October 15 or by clicking here and entering their employee ID number as their access code. Consecutive Days Absent Report
Did you know you can setup a subscription to receive an email every morning with a list of students who have missed consecutive days? The screenshot below is an example of a current subscription. This example displays every student who missed at least their fifth consecutive day as of the prior attendance day. If you need help setting up, please contact us or click here for the report. Continuous Improvement Update

WAIT... WHAT?
Dear Data Dude,
I’m struggling to get used to the new Tableau screens and can’t always find the reports I want to view and work with. Is there anything I can do?
Signed,
Lost in the Tableau Space
Dear Lost,
The new Tableau website view is indeed quite different from previous versions, but with the new look comes new functionality which can assist you in streamlining your report access. As you use the new Explore feature located in the left-most column, you should also notice a link for Favorites. Favorites function in a similar fashion as Bookmarks in your preferred web browser. Next to each report folder (we call those Tableau Projects), individual visualization (viz) and separate report page (view) you will find a star icon allowing you to mark that item as a Favorite. These Favorites can then be accessed using the Favorites link in your left navigation column. Once you set up your personalized list, you’ll never have to search again! Want to personalize your Tableau experience even further? Try familiarizing yourself with the View options on each report page so that filter settings are maintained every time you login to Tableau!
Sincerely,
Data Dude

Spotlight on This Month's Data DudeGene Denny
Gene Denny is on his second stint with DMPS, having first taught in the science classrooms of Meredith Middle School before being named Telecommunications Manager in the Technology Department. Gene returned to DMPS six years ago to work with the database systems and Tableau after having served as the Technology Director at Johnston Schools and then traveling the country teaching school districts how to use and implement both Infinite Campus and Tableau. This is his 27th year in public education. When not at work, you will usually find him officiating both high school and college volleyball matches across the state. Gene has been a devoted hot air balloon nut for 15 years, but his ultimate goal in life is to, just once, play the left side of a golf course fairway. Gene’s family consists of his wife (boss) of 27 years, Christine, his son Grant (23) and fiancé Riley, and his daughter Leah (20) a sophomore at Drake. |
