Quarter 1 School Performance and Equity Profile
The 1st Quarter School Performance and Equity Profile is now available.  This view compares data points from 47 days into the 2019-20 school year with the same data points 47 days into the 2018-19 school year, allowing for a more accurate view of progress.

ISASP Results Communication Plan
Thank you to all principals for their your feedback on our plan to communicate the Spring 2019 ISASP results with families. As promised, here's an edited version of the message that will be sent to parents/guardians via Infinite Campus messenger (https://tinyurl.com/isasp-parent-letter) and the attachment to the letter (https://tinyurl.com/isasp-results-communication). The BFL team is currently working on translating these documents.

Timeline for ISASP Results Communication
  • School Leader’s decision: share documents with school staff (PPT - https://tinyurl.com/dmps-isasp)
  • Week of October 28: Jeff Panek will email all test coordinators, APs, and principals with instructions on how to access PearsonNext and pull Spring 2019 ISASP reports.
  • November 4 (target date): Embargoed data released by state to schools
  • November 11 (target date): Embargo lifted and data loaded to Infinite Campus
  • November 12 (target date): Communication sent to parents/guardians via Infinite Campus and SchoolCNXT (we will inform school leaders before we send it out)
Continuous Improvement Update
Do you find yourself in several conversations in a day or a week?  Often, we lose track of who said what and even more important—what we said or promised we would do as follow up. A Stoplight Report just might be the solution you are looking for. Read about this handy tool and other CI updates on this month's newsletter.

Attendance Monitoring Dashboards
We have several dashboard to monitor attendance that have recently been reorganized and refreshed. You can analyze attendance patterns by course, block, teacher, grade level, student demographics, and more.  See them all here.

WAIT...  WHAT?

Dear Data Diva,
I get so busy with my students that I sometimes forget to take attendance.  Really, what harm can that cause - I only forget once in a while.

Signed,
Frantic French Teacher

Dear Frantic French Teacher,
Forgetting even once in a while affects more than you think.  For instance, in the example to the right, only 3 teachers didn’t take attendance, each just once in 2 weeks.  (The other blank spaces are periods that didn’t meet those days.)  This student did not attend at all those two weeks.  His attendance calculates to only 7 missed days by the whole/half day method, and 9.7 days by the exact method.  And, that student will not come up on the consecutive absence report that is used to find students who have stopped attending.  If just one teacher in one period does not take attendance, the count of consecutive days starts over.  A student could be absent for weeks without coming up on that report.

Sincerely,
Data Diva

Vicky Bennett has been working at DMPS for 21 years.  She commutes from Newton where she lives with her husband and twin adult sons, and the fat orange cat she inherited from her mother.  She likes to do all the things that old ladies do, like sew, knit, bake, and garden.  She also, surprisingly, spends a lot of time working out at the YMCA and walking during breaks.
